Many people are ignorant about the restriction on the use of the United States emergency number 911. In one of my older "burger king" post, I had talked about this issue. There is a recent case again where a man called 911 over a missing juice box that he had ordered in McDonald's drive through services. After reaching home, Raibin Osman found out that the orange juice he had ordered was missing. When he went back again to McDonald, the employee on the counter said "Oh, no, I can't do anything about it" and laughed at his brother-in-law’s broken English. This made the men furious and compelled them to call 911 as they didn't know how to contact the police to report about the matter. The employee on the counter felt threatened and to protect herself called 911 in return. Raibin Osman was arrested and appeared before the Washington County judge on a charge of misuse of emergency services.Raibin Osman's father believes his son is innocent. He says "You need help from the police, you have to call the 911. I don't have any other number." It is very important for people to understand that 911 is not a number to call the police but is an emergency number. You can call a 911 when there is a
Life threatening situation
Medical emergency
Fire breakout, or
Accident and the victim is not feeling well
The people who are ignorant about the emergency services rules, end up paying fines or sometimes get arrested for misuse. Vehicle rollover attorney said "I would advice people to be aware of when to dial 911 and avoid unnecessary legal complications." NYC federal criminal lawyers said "I don't consider Raibin Osman's call to be an act of innocence as claimed by his father but a complete case of ignorance." Please do not call 911 to resolve petty disputes.

That guy should be arrested or fined for calling 911 for a stolen OJ. Come on he could have taken time away from a real emergency. Awful and silly that someone would have to point out what 911 is for. But I know there are people out there who aren't sure what to use 911 for.
This is funny. How come people call 911 for the missing orange juice? Are people becoming insane nowadays?
911 should only be used when its life threatening, disaster, emergencies and etc situation though.
man who'd call 911 for a missing oj? this is absurd, what he could have done was talk to the manager for the 'supposed' insult on his brother in law... the missing juice probably was his own fault too...
Aren't you supposed to use 411 for things like this? To find out the Police's phone number.
How goofy can we be that we misuse 911. I have heard so many of these stories it is disheartening.
this sure is one great laugh but come to think of it, what's up with people nowadays? cheers!
Thanks for the info.

It's crazy how many people are misusing the emergency services. It's all you seem to hear about in the news of late. I know in England, UK they have set up a non-emergency number to deal with people asking what to do about Christmas decorations and what milk to buy! I don't know if people are getting more stupid or doing it deliberately to cause problems. Calling 911 over an OJ! I guess it is theft, and that is wrong, but when there's serious crime gangs etc it seems a little petty. Where I used to work, my contract of employment had a clause regrding the theft of office stationary, with emphasis being placed on paper clips! I have no idea why!
