It's crazy how many people are misusing the emergency services. It's all you seem to hear about in the news of late. I know in England, UK they have set up a non-emergency number to deal with people asking what to do about Christmas decorations and what milk to buy! I don't know if people are getting more stupid or doing it deliberately to cause problems. Calling 911 over an OJ! I guess it is theft, and that is wrong, but when there's serious crime gangs etc it seems a little petty. Where I used to work, my contract of employment had a clause regrding the theft of office stationary, with emphasis being placed on paper clips! I have no idea why!

Obviously a very disturbed young woman to take advantage of her position of authority. As a high school teacher, I can say from experience that we do get close to our students. Especially if you are a coach of athletics or a teacher who is in charge of after school activities. As a drama teacher, I spend more time with my students per week than I do my family. And in this situation, these are students who we "coach" for four consecutive years. When spending 4-6 hours a day, 5 days per week, for 4 years, it is difficult NOT to get close to these young people. And for those of you who haven't been around high school students lately, they are much more sophisticated than those of us who grew up without the internet, iphones and youtube. These aren't the wide-eyed innocents from 20 years ago. And many are down-right aggressive with their advances. I am not advocating or condoning such behavior, but when a young 17 year-old has the nerve to proposition a female twice his age, where does the blame lie? Then there is the issue of our fascination with these female teachers who allegedly "seduce" young men. I am constantly on my guard when working with my stage crew after school. And if we have to go anywhere in town to pick up materials for our set, I am considerate to the point of paranoia. Would it be as "offensive" to the public if I were a male teacher? I doubt it. I have even had male co-workers make off-handed comments about my relationships with my male students. None of it is true, and the way it was said was not derogatory, but rather said with leering fascination. If they want to see it, they will. No matter if it is actually happening or not.

Reading these comments I am at least relieved to hear that psychologist Robi Ludwig recognizes there is a serious problem with teachers much older than their students who sleep with their students. I have experienced this from the wives standpoint. My husband, a teacher and football coach, now 48 got involved with a 17 year old cheerleader and student and now has a 3 month old child with her. They met in her senior year of high school. We have a son, 21 and a daughter 18. This has devastated my life and ruined our family. I am so curious about what a high school girl wishes in a man this age as well -- especially one that was married with children. As a teacher as well, yes, these incidences are a disgrace. Although he was investigated by the police he still coaches and teaches at the high school. Because teachers and students and parents declined to come public about his affair while she was in high school it was unsubstantiated. He even went so far as to ask one of his players for her number when she was 17, while he was married and living with his wife. A lot of people have been hurt by this situation. Can someone tell me why he wasn't minimally placed on administrative leave while this was thoroughly investigated? Also, do people really not want to get involved given such a situation?

i concur with what airbag lawsuits said... a few 'rotten police officers' do change the perception of people towards the entire police force and it's quite unfair for police officers who are doing great at their jobs... a bigger problem is, it's not easy to change that perception...
